纽厄尔剪水鹱（Puffinus auricularis newelli）鹱属鹱形目，鹱科，与同属于鹱形目的海燕有亲缘关系，所以也有人称之为海燕或燕鹱。不过海燕属于另一个科---海燕科。鹱科中包括普通鹱和剪水鹱两种。全世界大约12—17种剪水鹱。
